Did you know? You Can Make a Tax-Free Gift from Your IRA!
If you are 70 1/2 years old or older, you can take advantage of a simple way to benefit FAHP and receive tax benefits in return. The IRA Charitable Rollover allows you to transfer any amount up to $100,000 directly from your IRA to a qualified charity without generating taxable income. This means:
- Your IRA charitable rollover gift can satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution.
- The distribution is not included in your taxable income.
- Congress has made the IRA Charitable Rollover permanent, so you may make gifts this year and in the future.
Contact your IRA plan administrator for information about how to make a transfer from your account. If you have any questions, please call or email Susan Randolph (FAHP Executive Director) at 302-239-2385; email@example.com.
Message from the FAHP Board President, Steve Bryce
Each fall, as I reflect on all the programs and events offered at Auburn Heights during the busy year, I am struck by the personal experiences and memories that people share when asked what they value most about this special place. Their appreciation for the amazing collections on view and in operation remains great, but it’s the people – the volunteers, staff and other visitors they encounter – who provoke awe and admiration.
At Auburn Heights, it’s personal – from entertaining and educating school groups and local families to providing expert advice or resources to long-distance members and steam car owners across the region and the nation. As a small organization, we know many of our members and visitors by name, and we celebrate their achievements as much as our own.
One longtime Family-level member describes her family’s visits:
My kids love riding the small trains around the grounds. As a photographer, I love to capture my kids enjoying these moments. They have great imaginations and have fun pretending they are the conductor on Little Toot to a far-off destination. These memories are a big part of their childhood. I know when they are all grown up, they will enjoy reliving the train rides and possibly bring their families to visit as well.
Two-year-old Zoey (shown right) sees the magic all around her: “I love watching the miniature trains inside the museum. It makes me smile and giggle.”
Your generous gift makes these moments and memories possible.
In 2017, we will host a year-long celebration marking 20 years of the Marshall Steam Team. On February 8, 1997, Tom Marshall welcomed to his home a small group of men with an interest in mechanical things. He offered to teach them how to operate and maintain his historic vehicles in exchange for keeping them running and sharing the joys of steam with others throughout the community. Their numbers swiftly grew, and so too did the personal encounters that have made visitors into volunteers and transformed tour-takers into FAHP members and longtime supporters.
One thing all of these people have in common – from the original Steam Team members to today’s first-time visitors – is that they soon discover how special this place is. Nowhere else can they experience what they do at Auburn Heights!
Please join me in making a gift to the Annual Fund so that we may continue to create great memories for every visitor and volunteer.
J. Stephen Bryce
P.S. This season, please consider a gift that keeps on giving long after the holidays end. The gift of an FAHP membership provides personal experiences that last a lifetime. Contact the FAHP office to arrange a gift membership for special friends or family by calling 302-239-2385 or emailing admin@AuburnHeights.org.
Thank you in advance for your continued support!
What is the Annual Fund?
The most important fundraising effort by the Friends of Auburn Heights Preserve, the Annual Fund provides direct and immediate support to the organization’s mission-related activities:
- The preservation and continued operation for public enjoyment of the extraordinary historic autos and trains entrusted to our care and the operation of the Marshall Steam Museum;
- Outreach programs that take the unique objects and expertise available at Auburn Heights into the community;
- On-site children’s programs designed to foster a lifelong love of science, history and technology;
- A driver training program that teaches volunteers how to operate, maintain and restore the 100-year-old vehicles in the Marshall collection.
