Learning is fun at any age!
Because Auburn Heights is a predominantly volunteer-staffed site, we do not yet maintain regular operating hours. Nevertheless, we are committed to sharing our knowledge and collections with the public and to offering the adult programs described below!
Evenings at the Museum
First Tuesdays, May through November, 7 pm
Evenings at the Museum debuted in 2015 as a new program for our adult visitors. Join us to explore the museum behind-the-scenes and get up close and personal with our historic collections. Each program will spotlight something new and includes admission to the Marshall Steam Museum. Find a complete list of dates and descriptions for the year’s Evenings by clicking here.
If you cannot make it to Auburn Heights during one of our public event days, consider scheduling a private tour. Tours of the Marshall family home and the Marshall Steam Museum are available for groups of eight or more Monday through Friday, 9 am – 5 pm. Please note that no rides are offered for reserved group tours.
Auburn Heights Mansion Tour: See the main two floors of the antiques-furnished Victorian mansion. Prior to its donation to Delaware State Parks, Auburn Heights was home to three generations of the Marshall family.
Marshall Steam Museum Tour: View the world’s largest collection of operating steam automobiles, plus two 1930s Packards, a 1901 Mobile steamer, 1914 Model T and a 1909 White steam car. In addition to these amazing vehicles, the museum features scale-size steam locomotives, standard-gauge Lionel electric trains from the 1930s, and more.
Reserved Tour Prices: Group tour tickets are $8/person for either the Mansion or Museum — or tour both for the discounted price of $14/person (a savings of $2/person). For more information, call (302) 239-2385 or email us. Please schedule at least two weeks prior to your preferred date.
Open House Tours
First Fridays & Third Saturdays, April through November
From April through November, we offer Open House Tour Days, when private tours of the Mansion or Museum are available without any minimum group size restrictions. No rides are offered, but visitors enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at the Auburn Heights estate. Mansion Tours begin at 1:00 or 3:00 on the front porch; a Museum Tour is offered at 2:00 pm. For questions, call (302) 239-2385 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Open House Tour Prices: Mansion Tour tickets are $8/adult or $4/child (12 and under); Museum Tour tickets or $8/person — or tour both for the discounted price of $14/adult or $11/child (a savings of $2/person). For questions or to schedule a visit, call (302) 239-2385 or e-mail email@example.com.
“Introduction to Auburn Heights”: We love connecting with new people. In this 30- to 40-minute presentation, we introduce your group to what we do at Auburn Heights, our history, and our unique collections. We offer this introductory lecture for free but ask that you consider making a $25 donation to cover the cost of transportation for the speaker. For more information, call (302) 239-2385 or email us.
Scheduled through the Delaware Teacher Center or by appointment.
We are always happy to work with teachers to explore how the Marshall Steam Museum can help enhance the classroom experience and help with meeting curriculum standards. Teacher workshops are available for groups of seven educators or more by private appointment. Contact our Director of Education for more information.
